Dacia Spring Conquer Romanian EV Market Share in 2022

The EV market share rises in 2022 with 98% from the previous year due to the mighty sales of Dacia Spring EV.

The little, cheap, cute EV sold in 2022 in more than 6000 units in Romania.

The number of EVs is growing fast and with a strong continuity in the Romanian market.

Romanian EV market share growth is fully dependent of the government inventive program called Rabla Plus. More than 95% of the EV sold in Romania are inside the incentive program.

About Rabla Plus

Romania’s incentive program is called “Rabla Plus” ( Scrappage Plus Program) and its started in 2013.

Due to this program, there has been a constant growth of EVs and PHEVs in Romania. More than 95% of the Romania’s electric fleet is marketed withing this program.

2021 was a good year because of the introductions of Tesla Motors within the program and the availability on the market of cheaper EVs like Dacia Spring etc.

2022 budget for the program is 200 mil euros. The money is distributed by a Governmental Agency we call AFM – The Administration for Medium Fundings. This money comes from the Ministry of Environment. The yearly budget of the Ministry of Environment consists of multiple sources, local, European funding, even now the EU Resilience funding program.

The program details are:

– The amount of financing is as follows:

– 51,000 lei (~10 200 eur) for a new purely electric vehicle or a new vehicle with a hydrogen fuel cell and 26,000 lei (~5 000 eur) for a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (except motorcycles), which generates a maximum of 80 g CO2/ km in the WLTP system, in exchange for scrapping an old used vehicle;

– 54,000 lei (~10 800 eur) for a new purely electric vehicle or a new vehicle with a hydrogen fuel cell and 29,000 lei (~6 000 eur) for a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, which generates a maximum of 80 g CO2/km in the WLTP system, for the purchase of a new vehicle , in exchange for scrapping two old used vehicles; for each used vehicle older than 15 years and with a pollution standard no higher than Euro 3, an ecobonus of 1,500 lei/vehicle can be granted (~300 eur).

–  At the same time, the eco-ticket for the purchase of an electric motorcycle is 26,000 lei (~ 5 000 eur), to which can be added an eco-bonus in the amount of 1,500 lei (~ 300 eur), for scrapping a used vehicle that is at least 15 years old from the date of manufacture and that has the Euro 3 pollution standard or lower.
